Phare - The Cambodian Circus
Do you plan a trip to Cambodia in combination with a trip up the Mekong? Then you should not miss out on the spectacular Phare, The Cambodian Circus. It is located in the heart of Siem Reap. This Circus is a very unique project founded by an organization who gives a true perspective to adolescents.
The Phare Ponleu Selpak Association in Battambang is a special school and community which was founded more than 20 years ago. This organization is committed to young people with difficult social backgrounds.
They give children and teenagers the opportunity to go to school and learn something for their future. In addition to a general education the association enables the students to visit special schools for arts, music, dance, theater and acrobatics.
More than 1.700 pupils get taught daily in different subjects, it also provides a kindergarten and a library. In addition, the organization supports needy families and provides them with the essentials they need for their daily life.
If the young people have successfully completed one of these schools they can become artists and performers and get the opportunity to perform in Phare, The Cambodian Circus. As guests at the circus you will be entertained with fascinating acrobatics, dancing, juggling and music performances and at the same time you support a very beneficial association in Cambodia.
Many of the performances are a mix of modern and traditional theater and staged around stories of Cambodian daily life and society. The artists will tell you a piece of their personal history and charm you with their positive energy and mood.
330 people can be accommodated under the bright red circus tent and shows are performed daily. The circus has put together different shows and enchants its visitors with different performances from the repertoire every week.
For instance, during one of their shows, guests can enjoy a story about overcoming fears or very personal experiences surrounding topics such as discrimination.
Do not miss out on this highlight in Angkor. A show at Phare, The Cambodian Circus, can be wonderfully combined with a very typical Cambodian dinner at their café right next to the circus tent.
